When I arrived at Ward 4 I was fussed over and plugged into a range of machines and they started to pump litres of fluid into me. Thereafter there were sessions of insulin/glucose to slowly be injected at a rate of 1ml/minute in an attempt to remove the potassium from my kidneys. All this had happened because of the recent increase in dosage of a drug I was on and my heart was in danger of failing as the potassium levels were at 7.7 which allows you to knock at death's door.

The hospital were fantastic, food lovely even though my first night consisted of the night sister waking me twice to say my snoring was keeping everyone awake. Next night my room mates all got issued with earplugs and sleeping pills - oh the shame!

Got out on Christmas Eve after several visits from Ellen and Adam and Anthony and I was glad to be home. Had to return on 27th for follow-up tests, but it looks as if the nasty potassium has gone and I did not have to continue the potassium-free diet. You should look that up as in summary, as the consultant told me, everything healthy had to be avoided like brown bread, vegetables, lentils, coffee, chocolate. Basically everything from a seed or pod or that grew under the soil, including potatoes! What a nightmare!

Wired up and feeling sorry for myself.

All of these were going at once…

Adam came with me for my follow-up and we discussed going to the Red Brolly for a small snack (2 bacon rolls each…)

Clan McInally + weekend
<dc:subject>2017 Diary</dc:subject>

James and Margaret asked if they could begin her birthday celebrations with an overnight in Killiecrankie and we were more than happy to host. The weather was amazing and our friends, Peter and Daniela made us most welcome. It is a beautiful city. We did not do too much of the touristy things as we will be back there in 2018, but spent most of our time going from one feast to another! By Saturday night I had only the smallest amount of space left to eat half of a panna cotta. Friday night we went to a traditional bar/inn which had musicians (including a double bass!) wandering from table to table entertaining everyone. We saw a couple get engaged, but neither he nor she looked particularly happy about it! What a lovely night it was for us, eating, chatting and laughing, and of all things, SMOKING at the table. Both Anthony and I were quite against that but we were "forced" to remain seated and not go outside! Peter and Daniela were perfect hosts, bringing us to their lovely home and looking after us so well. Heading to Dundee tomorrow to see Talya and fix her printer and deliver the upgraded 15" MacBook Pro that has been sitting on my shelf for ages. She should get a while out of it before it finally hits the dust. This week we have had all kinds of weather and it looked like Adam was going to be stuck here in the heavy snow on Monday, but that was all gone by Tuesday, even though it was very cold. Spring looks to have taken a step back but as I look out of the window I can see budding trees so perhaps the setback was only temporary!
Anthony is heading towards the end of his first year at UHI and is writing essays all day to get through it all. He has enjoyed it I think and is looking forward to next year. After a really busy month at work, all seems to have quietened down a little but May is going to be a busy one on that front.
Adam brought up an Amazon Firestick last weekend and spent happy hours setting it up for us and then gorging on the BBC "Line of Fire" Season One which was great. Cannot wait to start S2 and more at some point this week. We are busy looking for shared online calendars but I think I can share mine with Anthony from my Mac, so will have to look into that thoroughly this weekend.
Alfie got a spring coat, on the morning that the snows returned so has been freezing all week, going from this

to this

Which does make us laugh!

Low Weekend
<dc:subject>2017 Diary</dc:subject>

Adam arrived from Beau Riviera on Thursday and Caroline and George on Friday night. The A9 was closed again for the second day due to accidents so they had a Grand Tour of Perthshire to complete before getting here. After dinner Anthony drove us to Blair Atholl for the karaoke night, but he himself stayed at home to complete his university essays. We had a great laugh and since it was Caroline's first singing experience, we could not keep her off the floor! Then we headed to MaKays for the Chelsea-Spurs game before a lovely dinner in The Old Mill and then home. We allowed Vincent and Alfie to sit with us in the Drawing Room where the fire was on full blast and flames up the chimney. A great night out again! I was still exhausted from Friday night so I had a relatively early bed at 1am. His wife was so polite on her Messenger conversation but at all times I was waiting for the traditional "who are you and your connections with Barra?" question, which came eventually. I cannot wait to try some of them out. Being 54 is a nothing age at all so I think I will only celebrate on the multiples of five, as on my FB account this week happy memories of GM50 kept popping up which was a great thing and made me laugh.

Anthony went off to Portugal on Wednesday for the six monthly OSMTH meeting in Tomar. I could not go this time as I was lecturing at the LSE which went very well and I had more Gann questions this year than at any time in the 20 years of doing this course! I hope they all pass their exams in April. I travelled on the Sleeper train as usual and for back to take Pam off to Dundee where she is dog and cat sitting for Talya for a few days. Meantime I aimed to be up early on Saturday to go to Dunkeld to see an exhibition and take the chequebook. Sadly by the time I got there all the Bruernish images had been bought. A year ago I thought about buying one, but now they are completely overpriced with an additional digit at the front of them. So I treated myself to an our in the kitchen shop in Dunkeld indeed and got change out of a one-er. Much better use of money I think! The dogs are missing all the commotion in the house so yesterday we had a "let's lick George' half an hour, which was great fun. I am glad I never got a dog in London as it is better having one here when I have the space and the time to spend with them. Both are loving running about the garden all day but when I am ready to play with them they are exhausted! I have no idea what they are getting up to there but from the things they took it looks like a day of furniture assembly - good luck with that! So I have the house to myself and the dogs, and will take the opportunity to move some paintings around in anticipation of the next three months of guests visiting. After almost two weeks of blue skies and frosty mornings we have rain today with even more expected in the afternoon, so I will do all my hard work in the morning and settle down in the Big Room with the fire on and read my books - bliss.

Anthony is off to Portugal midweek for five days or events and I am down in London for my LSE Lecture on WD Gann on Wednesday. It is very strange being able to write "30 years" as I still feel as if I am in my 20s, but the haircolour and creaking bones and dodgy kidneys tell a different story! It is only fair! We have blue skies here in the Crankies, but freezing cold, and the Poor Student is in the middle of his mid-semester essay writing so the house is under a lot of stress. Doggies are out enjoying the cold and sun so that keeps me out of trouble. Already filling up the diary with visitors for the springtime, but summer visitors are yet to book in! I seem to be drawing in novels yet to be read. That is probably the only thing I miss about London is the half hour each way reading time on the 205 bus! I am glad we started this out as we seem to have made some changes to groups and lives across the country.

I am still getting used to this new format of writing, so with some practice here are images of the garden taken this week… Feel free to click!

Barra House
<dc:subject>2017 Diary</dc:subject>

Of course one of the main changes this year so far is the over-enthusiastic purchase of the Barra House in Bruernish. It is almost a ruin, but once it has been done up it will be lovely. I bought it at an auction (very exciting indeed) and late January went up to see it for the firs time. The weather in Barra was magnificent as you can see, the house needs to be emptied first before any work can get done, but the view is out of this world! I travelled minus Poor Student and dogs, and read most of the way on the ferry. I guess there will be more trips this year before it is ready for visitors!

A new entry
<dc:subject>2017 Diary</dc:subject>

2016 was a very poor year for updating this website. I am sure that is because I don't spend hours sitting at the kitchen table as I did at No62, and instead either enjoy the garden, visitors or the dogs, who both grow larger with each passing day. Today Alfie cocked his leg for the first time, and I was indeed proud! Today we said a brief goodbye to Pam who was heading back to London for a while, but she will return in a few weeks to begin house-hunting herself. All very exciting indeed!

Last weekend we were down in Birmingham, having left the house at 04:20 to catch the plane from Edinburgh. It was a long day but very enjoyable and we were home at 22:30 and exhausted!

Gratuitious image of Vincent below:
